What The Heck…King Kong?
April 14, 2008 by alntv
Okay…I’ve been away from home for over a week now, and I swear TNT has been running the modern day version of “King Kong” every freakin’ night. Here are a few thoughts…
1. When I first saw King Kong, it was in a theatre in San Francisco that had a huge screen and surround sound and I thought it sucked then. Seeing it every night this week has not changed my opinion of it.
2. What was Peter Jackson thinking??? I mean, this was the same guy who made “Lord Of The Rings” look like it could actually have happened! So he decided he wanted to make the one movie that inspired him to be a director and the best he could do was this?
3. I have one really major complaint about movies these days and it’s CGI. It ruined “I Am Legend”, it has ruined (or come close to ruining) several other movies that I had hoped to enjoy, and in this movie, it doesn’t really ruin the film as so much as run it over! It’s like an 18-wheeler heading downhill at 100 miles an hour with no brakes. Too much crap happening.
4. Giant bugs? Dinosaurs? What does any of this have to do with a big ape? If you’ve seen the movie, you know that about 40 minutes of it could have been cut. Some of the scenes are completely useless and most of them are completely ridiculous.
5. And finally (because I have to get some sleep), does anyone really believe that Naomi Watts is gonna pine over a giant monkey? Uh….no.
That being said, I did like the ending where the fighter planes shot Kong down off the building. I developed a very strong sense of vertigo. Made my belly feel all goopy. Seems somewhat appropriate that the best thing about this movie is the end. Too bad in couldn’t have happened…say…an hour sooner?

i totally agree.,.
I thought I would love this movie! The Fay Wray version was one of my favorite movies growing up, and
Oh sorry, I got cut off!
Anyway, I was very disappointed. I thought the natives looked like zombies and the giant bug scene was the worst part of the movie.
You know ICAM about CGI. As I said after viewing I Am Legend, what ever happened to masks and make-up? If I want to watch a cartoon, I’ll just go watch a cartoon, thank you!
My biggest fear is that they are going to CGI the new Indy movie to death. Please don’t destroy my childhood hero by making him fight cartoons!!! (Oh, but feel free to airbrush his wrinkles.)
Didn’t see it, won’t see it, sorry you saw it.
