So I missed last weeks Lloyd Weber extravaganza where Carly got the boot. Thankfully, I might add. I was kinda tired of her bad Heart renditions and Beatles butcherings. Tonight didn’t look like it was gonna be much better. Neil Diamond? Seriously…I didn’t even know he was still around! That being said…I really enjoyed tonight’s performances, and I was surprised at how well Diamond’s songs really stood the test of time!
Jason Castro: I thought his rendition of “Forever In Blue Jeans” was perfectly suited for him! It was really good! But his second song, “Summer Morn”, was a boring song when Diamond did it…and Castro’s performance was not good at all. My score: B-
David Cook: Seriously, can anybody be better than this guy? I’m sold that if he doesn’t win this, the show should be blown up and never aired again. That being said, he did “I’m Alive” and “All I Really Need Is You”. Both were stellar. “All I Really Need Is You” was freakin’ AWESOME! He did it acoustic and killed it. My score: A+
Brooke White: Sand the worst performance of the night with arguably Neil Diamond’s most popular song that he didn’t make famous, “I’m A Believer” (The Monkees recorded it way back when. Donkey made it famous in this decade). But she rebounded nicely with her 2nd song, “I Am, I Said”, sitting comfortably behind the piano where all of her best performances take place. Not her best outing though and I think this might be her last night. My score: C (yes…I’m A Believer was THAT bad…)
David Archuletta: I really want to dislike him because I like David Cook so much, but damn if the guy isn’t good. He chose “America” and “Sweet Caroline” (my personal Neil Diamond favorite). Except for the early low notes on “America”, he nailed both of them. No way he’s ever going home…dammit. My score: A
Syesha Mercado: Sang “Hello Again” and “Thank The Lord For The Nighttime”. Both good performances. I had never heard “Thank The Lord” before, so she had that going for her and she made it sound pretty darn good. Simon picked her to go home tomorrow though. We’ll see Simon…we’ll see. My score: B
So my picks for worst of the evening are Brooke and Jason. With Jason worst performance coming during the latter part of the show, he might be in trouble. I’m still saying Brooke should be gone. But I have to figure that Syesha is safe, regardless of what Simon says. And we all know that it’s gonna be David vs David for the big finale anyways…
Let’s tune in tomorrow and see what happens! ![]()
