I didn’t get the chance to see the performances last night. I was hard at work watching the Reds lose to the Cubs. However my wife gave me the lowdown on what happened, and apparently tonight was a given…Jason Castro was done. Not just because we, the public, ousted him. But because he was just done.
First he gave a lackluster performance on ”I Shot The Sheriff” (which, by the looks of Castro, Bob Marley has got to be one of his heroes, right?) and then he forgot the words to “Mr. Tambourine Man”. So it didn’t really matter if he made it past Syesha tonight, he would have bottomed out next week anyways. What makes this guy so confusing is that you can’t tell whether or not he aspires to be a performer or not. I, personally, love the guy. I have downloaded more of his songs off ITunes than any of the other performers. I loved his renditions of “Hallelujah”, “Forever In Blue Jeans”, and “Daydream”. I think he has enough odd charisma to pull off being a new artist. However I can’t tell if his heart is in it. He almost looked relieved tonight when the vote was in and I think it was an overwhelming task for him to come up with songs each week to perform against the other singers who have far more range and more overall talent.
Whatever happens to Jason Castro after his tour with American Idol is over, I will always be a fan. I hope he goes on to have a career like Jack Johnson. I think he now knows and understands his limitations, but I hope he also knows what his strengths are and plays up to them.
Good luck, Jason! It was a great ride for you. Hope to be hearing from you soon!
So next week…it’s down to 3. Apparently they each sing 3 songs. Anyone wanna guess who will be in the final the following week? And for the record, back on February 14th, if you go to here, you can see that I picked 2 of the final 4 this season. Not bad, huh? Even if the guy I picked to win got booted the first week of the Top 12, I still have beaten the odds! Yay for me!
