Syracuse Lacrosse Is The GREATEST Sport EVER
May 14, 2008 by alntv
Not really. But I had to see if I could get my friend Jon Braude to actually look at my blog. I don’t know anything about Syracuse Lacrosse. Apparently it’s pretty awesome and they must be good. Let me take a quick look…just to satisfy whoever might actually come across this…
Let’s see…apparently they were 13-2-0 this season. 9-0 at home. Not bad. The only losses they had this year were to #3 ranked Virginia in OT and to lacrosse powerhouse Colgate.
They are a 3-seed and playing the 6-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish this Sunday in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Should be very exciting! Wonder what network is carrying it…
They have some guy named Mike Powell on their team. He has video on Youtube. Soooo…he must be pretty good, right?
And that’s all I got.
So for Jon, I say go get ‘em Orangemen! Or is it Orange?
Wait a minute…what kind of stupid name is that anyways? I’m gonna look THAT up too.
Apparently, back in the day they were called the “Saltine Warriors”. It was originally reported that ancient artifacts where found buried where the college was founded. They were left by native Americans called the Saltine Warriors. Later this report was found to be false, but the name stuck for a while (4 decades actually). In 1978, Syracuse was one of the first colleges to ban a Native American motif. For about a second, the mascot became a Roman Warrior (apparently they didn’t have a problem using a motif of a non-American warrior), but then it morphed into a giant cartoon orange. I can see that…
Anyway, orange is the official school color since 1890. Before that, Syracuse’s official colors were rose pink and pea green. Someone obviously disovered that those colors were butt ugly and decided to go with a more official looking, non-butt ugly-but-still-hard-to-color-coordinate orange. Thus setting into place the stepping stones for what would later become their team name (the Orangemen & Orangewomen, later replaced with the more politically correct “Orange”). The team mascot was first named Clyde. When Clyde had too many public appearances scheduled and needed a break, they had to send out a second mascot, affectionately known as Woody. After a while, both Oranges needed study time, so they mated and had a third mascot, known as Otto (nixing the other option, which was Opie, because they didn’t want it to rhyme with Dopie. Go figure.).
Aaaaanyway, Syracuse is a really big school located in Syracuse, NY (shock) and they HAVE won many NCAA Lacrosse Championships (the last being in 2004). So I guess Jon being a super-uber Orange Lacrosse fan is not such a surprise. The fact that he is a super-uber Orange Lacrosse fan and lives in Cincinnati is a whole ‘nother story. But it really doesn’t matter…I was just trying to get Jon’s attention…and one more hit on my site. Thanks for checking it out dude!
(I win)

Very impressive!!
You certainly got my attention. Also, you obviously did your research. We’ll have plenty to talk about tonight — non-stop lax (that’s short for lacrosse…duh).
See you this afternoon.
JB
P.S. Mikey Powell has been gone for a few years (from Syracuse, not dead). The Powell brothers are an interesting story — at least I think so. I’ll be sure to fill you in — on the Powells and on the “Legend of 22.”
You gonna see it..National Champions Again! Syracuse Claims 10th NCAA Title with 13-10 Win Against Johns Hopkins ………… .
