Well you KNEW this was coming…so don’t go acting all surprised, like I was never gonna do it! And you can bet it’s gonna be a series because I love the freakin’ 80’s! Yeah…I said it. Plus, I was mowing today and had it on an 80’s mix…so it got me in the mood. So today is R&B you probably don’t know. Who knows what it’ll be next week!
8. Ready For The World – “I Just Wanna Be Loved”
Off the soundtrack to “Running Scared”, this is one of many tracks on that disk that I can throw on and it makes me wanna dance. Remember “Oh Sheila”? Well…that was these guys. This song was never released, but it should have been!
7. The Time – “My Drawers”
Oh sure…”Jungle Love” got all the spins, but I would put money on this little bit of funk anyday.
6. Shalamar – “Dead Giveaway”
You know you wanna start breakin’ with just the mention of this band! Most people remember “Dancin’ In The Sheets” from the Footloose soundtrack. I dig this one!
5. Jermaine Jackson – “Dynamite”
With little brother Michael doing so well, one of the other Jackson kids had to try to cash in…right? Before Janet hit it big, Jermaine hit the geri-curl heavy and put out this number. Poppy and unstoppable.
4. The Pointer Sisters – “Baby Come And Get It”
Oooooh…heavy solicitation from the 3 funkiest sisters of the decade. You know “He’s So Shy” and “I Get Excited”. They don’t hold a candle to this song!
3. Roger – “I Wanna Be Your Man”
Oh please…if you’ve never heard of Zapp, you don’t know funk. And did you know that Roger Troutman was the lead singer of that band? And he was from Dayton, OH? He then went and released an album that included this huge R&B hit. He’s gone now, but this song lives on!
2. Force MD’s – “Tender Love”
First love. Anyone remember? Well…these guys did! And then they produced a song that is so sweet it drips with sugar. A knockoff New Edition? Maybe. But this song is still a reminder of how a good love song can be done.
1. The Jacksons – “Wait”
They released “State Of Shock” with Mick Jagger. Then they went on the “Victory” tour. And then…they were gone. I still think the album really isn’t all that bad! And for further proof, check out this track. I swear it’s one of the greatest songs never released by the Jackson family. A little long…but damn if it ain’t catchy as all get out! (Who TALKS like this anymore??? Don’t tell my wife…she’ll smack me…)

Ugh. I HATE the 80’s. Of course, there is some good stuff, but not much!
Oh but you are so wrong here Danielle-Lee! The 80’s are chock full of fun nuggets like these!
