American icon and beer maker Anheuser-Busch is sellin’ out. That’s right…the barn doors are closing on the Clydsdales and the brewery will now be owned and operated by a Belgian company. Is this okay? I mean, it IS going to be run and operated out of St. Louis. The company will be renamed Anheuser-Bush InBev, splitting the name with the company that is buying them out for $52 billion. So the United States gets to keep the workers in St. Louis happy. But are you okay with another one of our companies being owned by a foreign company? I don’t know what my feelings are at this point. Seriously…as long as the production stays on our soil, does it really matter where the owners of the company reside? I can’t decide if I care or not. Here’s an article on the whole matter in the New York Times.
Checking out a long list of other companies that are owned by foreign companies, there are quite a few that I wouldn’t have expected including Firestone tires, Dial soap, Holiday Inn, 7 Eleven and French’s mustard??? And then there are even more historical American landmarks that are owned out of country such as the Chrysler Building, the Chicago Skyway and the Plaza Hotel in New York City! WTF?!?! I had no idea…
So now every time you drink a Budweiser or a Bud Lite (which I do occasionally), you will be drinking a foreign brew. Kinda weird. Anybody know the Belgian way of saying “Wazzup”???
I can really enjoy a Stella but this story has made me quite sick. It’s back to PBR, from what I could find out its still completely American made/owned.
Well look who makes an appearance! Ashley’s husband! Nice! Now I got the whole family tunin’ in. I should have figured it would take a blog about beer to get Chris over here! LOL!
Well now the Americans will perhaps learn how to make a good beer! Let me take a moment to rejoice.

Let’s face it, with the weak dollar, American companies are a bargain now. It does not only affect our travel plans.
I have been pondering about the Wazzup question. As you are well aware, Belgium is a trilingual country, but in all practicality, the two main languages are French and Flamish.
In French, you could say: “Ca roule, ma poule?” literally “how is it rolling, my hen?”
In Flamish, you could say: “Hoe gaat het?” which is pretty proper. The Flemish peops do not have an equivalent for Wazzup, I’m afraid. Pimpnuts they’re not!
I hope this was helpful.
Okay…I am definately adding this woman to my blogroll…’cause SHE’S nuts! Or just incredibly…bilingual. Whichever…she’ll be a good addition to the group! LOL
Yes, Nathalie with an H’s comment was great! “Ca roule, ma poule” rolls off the tongue (at least the way I’m pronouncing it.)
I was going to suggest that we all switch to SAM ADAMS! but that’s only cuz I can’t buy my fave where I live: Boulevard out of KCMO.
I could go for Sam Adams!
