A while back I had a little contest. 8 people who read my blog sent in 8 songs that they like and I have created mix CDs for each of them which they have received via snail mail. Hopefully each of them is enjoying their music as I type! What I didn’t do is send them a track listing of the music they are listening too. What idiot would do that, you ask? Well…I would. And here’s why: if they don’t know the song and artist, they can’t pre-judge the music! This way, they will listen with an open mind and possibly find a new artist that they have never heard before or maybe they get to hear an old song they love that they haven’t heard in a while! Either way…it’s a win/win situation! For the record, I used all different artists on every CD. No artist or band was featured twice on any of the disks. And that was MY challenge! But now I am gonna list them all for you (AND for Twenty-Four At Heart who sent in a list, but wanted just a playlist…no CD), so that if those of you who got a disk want to know your track listing, it’s right here…PLUS…if you are interested in even more tracks, you can go check out the artists featured on the other CD’s that I sent out! It’s a music extravaganza!!! So here are the songs that you all got…

Additional Note: Ooops…I apparently have a Will Hoge song on 2 of the disks! Oh well…the guy deserves some publicity anyways!

Wow – you put a lot of time into this! Can’t wait to sift thru all the songs this weekend!
There’s a lot there! Have fun and let me know what you like!
LOL! I am so excited! I love my CD!!! It’s greatness. I’m telling you, I was crying when the Sir-Mix-A-Lot song came on!!
I knew you’d love that! HA!
I love the Kerli song, Walking on Air. It’s great!
Yeah…that was a freebie on ITunes a few weeks ago. I really liked it and have looked into more of her music, but that is my favorite song!
Just checked blogs for the first time in two days and as I clicked on yours, I got reminded to check my mailbox. My package was there waiting for me in all its magnificence! Woohoo. Listening to it as I type this. Of course, my first thought was “DamnAlanforgottheplaylist”, but I’m happy now
End of first song – I’m already very happy!!!
Thank you for running yourself into the ground for our benefit. I think you’ve got a years worth of purgatory shaved off right there. 20 more to go…
Why are there chicks with funny little hats on your address stickers?
I knew the missing playlist would get somebody!
As for the chicks…I have no idea. I just handed all the packages to the lady behind the counter and she stamped ‘em for me! LOL
WOW ! Now THIS is what I call a MIX !!!
I too, am listening to it as I type. You
did pretty good, considering my choices
threw you for a loop ! LOL ! My favorites
(so far) are: “Broken English”, “She Moves
On”, “Everybody Knows” “Everyday” and
“Bring on the Comets” !!! I was typing
lyrics into Google trying to figure out who
did some of these songs ! Ha Ha !
I have always heard of “Marianne Faithfull”,
but never really knew what she did. I am
now a fan.
I’m going to listen to the “Square” mix first
thing in the morning ! I see you have “Lost!”
on there. Sweet. I really dig that tune !
Thanks Alan.
You look exhausted !!!
Ooooh..Faithful is a lot like Tom Waits…you either like it or you don’t. And all the stuff on the “Square” mix are the songs that I’ve enjoyed so far this year! All 2008!
P.S. Everybody Knows is actually a Leonard Cohen tune, but you got the remake off the “Pump Up The Volume” soundtrack. I highly recommend the original! It’s really dark and smoky…
I listened to both cd’s yesterday while driving around doing my real job and I kept telling HBL, “I wish Alan had included a playlist. I’ll have to let my TuneUp find them for me.”
Great! Wonderful! You did good!
I only recognized 2 artists while it was playing so you did really really good. Now my music horizon has broadened.
Thank you thank you thank you.
Just curious…which 2 artists did you know already and what are your 2 LEAST favorite tracks?
Willie and the Wreckers are the only two I knew already. As for which were my least favorite tracks, I’d have to listen again, which I’m about to jump in the SUV and head to Dallas for a new camera lens and I’ll get back with you and have the answer to that question when I return.
Nothing sticks out as anything I disliked, if that tells you anything. Nice job.
O.k. after listening again my least favorite are number 5 and number 10 but I’m not sure those are in the same order as you have them written because Willie is right after The Wreckers on my cd. #3 and #4. Now I’m all confused and I need to listen while I’ve got the list in hand. Way to go making this poor old gal even more confused than she already she is!
The more I listen to the cd, the more I love it. It will make my trip from Texas back to OK on Monday, way more bearable. Thanks again.
I must have screwed that up…sorry ’bout that. And ITunes crapped out on me, so I don’t have the original mixes!!! AGH! If you hear a lyric and can’t tell what the song is, let me know. I’m sure I can figure it out!
Alan, I’m not unappreciative, just confounded in front of so many new pieces. I have to listen to them quite a lot before being able to tell you what my favorite and my least favorite ones.
Thanks again. It’s a real treat!
Mildlife Slices: Where in Dallas are you getting your lenses? I NEVER buy anything here. I always use B&H in New York: they are reliable, knowledgeable, and less expensive.
No rush…just curious. And I by all my lenses at The Eyeglass Factory here in Cincinnati…
Thanks for the CD’s Al!
I love that you added “Every Little Step” to mine. Nice touch. I will ALWAYS remember dancing the video moves to that in the lounge/cafeteria at OUZ.
Good times.
Back in the day…and I will always REMEMBER you dancing to that song!
Thanks for the CD! I finally had time to listen to it tonight. There are some bands I now need to do further research on.
Also, while I like the one made with me in mind, I must admit I thought the “Square Glasses” mix was maybe a hair better? Am I allowed to think that?
Glad you liked them! And the “Square Glasses” mix is newer music from this year. When I was making everyone’s disks I was just trying to take the mix that you gave me and play off it. In your case, it was a little more difficult because I honestly don’t know a thing about Anthrax, Sarah Harmer, theStart OR Spooncat…so I was kinda searching in the dark! LOL However, I did go download a few songs from theStart and previewed several songs by Anthrax and Harmer. So hopefully something was on your personal mix that you might like! But I dig the “Glasses” mix too…the songs on there are easily my favorites of this year!
