Give ’til it hurts
Got nothing to do with that $50 ya just won from Twenty-Four At Heart? Just cashed in on a lottery ticket? Got a 10 spot burning a hole in your pocket? Well…head on over to your local ITunes store and cash in on THESE babies! They are simply the best new picks of this week!
The Dandy Warhols – Now You Love Me (from “Earth To The Dandy Warhols”)
This band is quirky, to say the least! I have a few of their previous albums and this one sounds just as unique as the last one! Distortion in the mold of Ultra Vivid Scene from the 90’s, this single is just cool. And if you download the entire album, you get the Warhols’ version of “Sister Golden Hair”…which is one of my favorite pop songs of all-time!
The Stills – Being Here (from “Oceans Will Rise”)
Nice little pop/alternative ditty here. I would put them in the same category as The Verve. Straight out of Canada, these guys ain’t been hanging out with Alanis Morrissette…that’s for sure.
LL Cool J – Baby
Oh crap…HE’S BACK! And this song could be huge!!! All kinds of nastiness and a sweet little Richie Sambora guitar riff to make it even heavier. Some wah-wah and some horns. Very hot!
Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire (from the soon to be released “Only By The Night”)
Yeah…I know…this song was what prompted the blog about “s…e…x…”! But this song is just so freakin’ cool that I HAD to mention it twice! Seriously…this song just sounds like sweaty…well…you know. And it’s rock at it’s best. A MUST have for your collection.
Foolish Fame – Starry Eyed Surprise
If you’ve ever been to the movies and seen the Coke commercial where the kids are on the boardwalk skating around with the really cute blonde, this song is the tune that’s playin’. I never knew what the song was until tonight! I was parusing the new Shwayze disk and ITunes listed it as being similiar to Shwayze’s style. Nice little find…and it came out back in 2004. I’m just a wee bit late on this one…LOL
Pictures and Sound – It’s You
Very John Mayer-ish and low key. Simple and I like it. Check it out. You might find it to be a little boring. For me, it fits my mood right now.
Pop Levi – Fire On Your Feet (from “Never Never Love”)
For shear weirdness, go check this out. The whole album sounds kinda like Beck on crack or something. Not my cup of tea, but it is interesting! This song was the least…uh…strange? But I kind of liked “Wannamama” also…
Aaaand some guy named Kyle Andrews has some new music out. His album is called “Real Blasty” and it’s even stranger than the Pop Levi stuff! A little too strange for my tastes, but definitely different! “Blow It Out” would be the choice pick if I were to buy anything off it…which I didn’t.
And in my “It’s Just Crap” category…”The Academy Is…”. Their new album is nothing that hasn’t been done a million times before and most of the songs I previewed were just boring (unless you’re a teenage boy). Skip it. Also a new album from some guy named Matthew Perryman Jones just sounds like any other piano-playing guitar-playing (Lew? Does this guy play ANY instrument???) artist out there. Booooring.
Thanks for the list . . I will have to check some of this out. I’m still enjoying my Mix CD – awesome job on that one!
And LL Cool J? I love me some LL Cool J. Gonna go check that one out RIGHT NOW!
That song is AWESOME to work out too!
I have been so busy today I haven’t had a chance to get on iTunes. I never miss a Tuesday! So thanks for the list. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more sane!
Enjoy the music! And don’t pay any attention to my review of that Jones guy. Apparently I was completely wrong and he’s the next coming of…David Gray?
Alan:
I found your comments about Matthew Perryman Jones insightful…especially since he does not play the piano.
The album is essentially pop/rock, with *very* little piano heard throughout.
Maybe you listened to the wrong album?
Lew
Wow! You’re right! I only listened to the first 4 songs (which DO have piano in a couple of them) and apparently Jones DOESN’T play the piano. But after second listen, I’m sticking to my guns. This performer is still pretty boring. Maybe he’s better live? I dunno. But there are a whole slew of artists just like him out there and I don’t have time to go through every single song. I generally give an artist I don’t know about 4 songs to impress me. If they don’t I move on. With Jones, I moved on. Hope I didn’t upset anyone in the Jones camp! I would hate to have THAT on my conscience…
Alan: I think if you REALLY want to make a GOOD CD you should make a CLASSIC COUNTRY, channel 902 on Time Warner Cable. No Mandrell, no Hank Williams, Jr. They are neither Classic Country or Any Good. So if you want to make a really good CD, make a classic country and send it to me!!! I will be watching my mail, ……… or maybe your car parking out front!!! Love….mom
