“Boxer”, released last year by The National, is chock full of great songs. But this is the highlight of what I would consider to be the best album of 2007. The lyrics are poignant and with the conventions happening this week and next, appropriate to the times. Time to wake up America!
“Fake Empire” by The National
Stay out super late tonight
picking apples, making pies
put a little something in our lemonade and take it with us
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
with our diamond slippers on
Do our gay ballet on ice
bluebirds on our shoulders
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
Turn the light out say goodnight
no thinking for a little while
lets not try to figure out everything it wants
It’s hard to keep track of you falling through the sky
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
MMMmmmm…lemonade.
(You sick of my sarcasm yet? Ha!!)
Never. I LOVE your sarcasm!
Not really familiar with this group… But if it’s your
top album of 2007, I better check it out. You do
have pretty good taste in tuneage…
“Boxer” is an AWESOME album. The lead singer has a baritone voice (similiar to Morphine) and they have a unique sound. Check them out! I hear they will be splitting the opening act bill on the new REM tour with Modest Mouse. Now THAT is gonna be awesome!
love it:)
