Super Bowl XLV Media Center

Oh I know…it’s the “media center”…nothing fun can happen there, right? A bunch of radio personalities who are on the radio for a reason (unattractive with good voices) and some tv guys talking for 8 hours.

Well…you have the 2nd part right.

Our day started on-air at 10am and didn’t finish until 6…but that doesn’t mean I can’t have SOME fun…right? So on our lunch breaks, here are a few pictures that me & my co-workers took. And there are a couple of stories to tell…

First…there are literally hundreds of current NFL players who weave their way from radio booth to radio booth and then to our set for the NFL Network. Here are a few players you might know…

Giants QB & Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning

Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew

Brooklyn Decker…wait…SHE’S not a player…

And then there are a TON of former NFL greats who also give interviews. Some are outgoing, some are not. Let’s see who IS and who isn’t…

Tiki Barber…IS

Eric Dickerson…DUNNO. I didn’t take this picture…

The Bus (Jerome Bettis)…IS

Mean Joe Green? Of course he IS! Haven’t you ever seen THIS?

And I dunno what this critter is but he was pretty friendly…

And where there are million dollar sports figures, there are bound to be pretty women…

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

Miss America Teresa Scanlan

Supermodel Marisa Miller

Aaaaand then there is my Fergie story. The Black Eyed Peas are performing at halftime at the Super Bowl and every year the halftime performers meet the media and answer questions. Well…I saw BEP a couple of years ago in Pittsburgh for the NFL Kickoff. At the time, Fergie looked like this…

Today, from a distance, she looked like this…

However AFTER the media chat, the band came through the NFL Net dining room while I was eating my lunch. Fergie & the boys walked right past my table as I talked on the phone with my wife. Needless to say, I didn’t hear a whole lot of what she was saying…but I’m sure she will forgive me just this once. Unfortunately, because I was talking on my phone, I wasn’t able to snap their picture as they passed by. Oh well…

So the first 2 days at the Media Center are over and it has been all kinds excitement. But the highlight of MY stay? Seeing all the athletes and mega-stars? Nah…

It was meeting this guy…

Bugs ROCKS!!!

Super Bowl XLV – Dallas, TX

Dallas, Texas is the site for this year’s Super Bowl matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. This will be the Steelers’ 8th appearance and the Packers’ 5th appearance in the big game. What will transpire under the glow of the monstrous jumbotron that is perched high above the field in Dallas Stadium? Who knows? But I am here and I will be working at the stadium on Super Bowl Sunday. But until then…I’m stuck in downtown Dallas, working at the Media Center for the NFL Network. What’s gonna happen here this week? Well…we’ll be talking endlessly about this season, next season, the strike, possible Super Bowl outcomes, Super Bowl celebrities, who will be the SB MVP, who will be the first draft pick for next year, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame, etc and so forth.
Needless to say, there is plenty to talk about…especially with the possibility of a strike looming over this season’s proceedings. And I’m sure there will be more than one opinion of what will happen. I don’t know what will happen but I do know this…if the NFL goes on strike, I’m gonna have to get another job! And then I’d be home all the time and I could drive my wife and kids crazy! Sounds like fun!

Anyway…right now its 20 degrees with winds gusting and ice covering the streets. its FRIGID cold here and I didn’t bring my winter coat. But neither did anyone else so I fit right in. February in Texas. Who would have thought it would be THIS cold. Makes me wonder what a February in New York City is gonna be like in a few years. That could be ugly…

So who am I rooting for in Super Bowl XLV? Well…I’m taking the Packers offense over the Steelers defense. The Packers are a quick strike team and do well indoors. We’ll see how the Steelers contain that. But I wouldn’t put anything past Pittsburgh. Damn if those guys aren’t resilient. I hate that about them…but admire it at the same time.

Soooo…THAT summer happened…

Tomorrow (or today, depending on your time zone), my kids go back to school. Christopher will be going into 3rd grade, Ava in 1st. I’m not sure, but I think summer officially started maybe a week ago? And now they’re heading back to school??? Wow…time goes by when you’re having fun. Needless to say, summer has flown by and now…it’s on to the fall and then winter and then spring and then…uh…summer again?

Interesting cycle we’re in here.

Aaaanyway, this summer, beginning in May, I found myself in Louisville, Dallas, St. Louis, Washington, DC, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, Zanesville, Williamsburg, Houston, Milwaukee, Chicago, Canton, Phoenix, Los Angeles & San Francisco (again). Needless to say, it’s pretty much been non-stop traveling ever since the sun woke up and I’m a little worn out. 4 months of moving around, working and trying to cram in as much family time as I can is winding down as the kids go back to school and my schedule actually starts to slow down. Which kinda sucks considering that it should work the other way. I should take more time out for my kids when summer starts and then go back to work when they go back to school…but sometimes things don’t work out that way and I can’t control those things. So…I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Football season is right around the corner and baseball season will, for me, be wrapping up.

I imagine now that my schedule is slowing down a bit, I’ll get back into my writing. I have some projects I want to get working on, some housework that needs to get done and some makeup time with my wife & friends. I am hoping that some of the thoughts I have will pour out of my brain and onto my little blog here, but if they don’t all come rushing out right away, I’m okay with that. But I just wanted to let you guys know that I’m still alive & kickin’. It ain’t been easy and I’m still working as I type (I’m in Phoenix right now), but I can see daylight and I can’t wait to have a little free time to be creative again!

Peace!

When Bloggers Meet

As most of us who “blog” know…we are constantly making new friends who come and go. Friends who comment on our site and then we go read their site and leave a comment and sooner or later you end up corresponding whether it continues via comment section or Facebook or Twitter or email or whatever. I have made many friends here in the blogosphere, some that I have almost forgotten I have never met. And in the case of Danielle-Lee, if you were to ask me how I know her, I might have had to pause and think about it because, quite frankly, it feels as if I have known her for years!

If you haven’t been to her site, visit “A Little Left Of Lost.” As of today, she hasn’t been doing a whole lot of writing simply because the woman hasn’t had the time. Being a working mother who is going to school and who has the CRAZIEST schedule, she has found it difficult to take a half hour out of her day to write. As we all know, this happens from time to time. We get busy, life gets in the way, and the next thing you know…ya haven’t written anything in months! But on Monday, she took some time out of her busy schedule to meet up with me for lunch in Irving, Texas. We hunkered down at a little Italian eatery and got caught up on our lives and what we’re up to and I have to tell you…it was like we had gone to high school or college together.

Here’s the thing…I’ve been writing here for almost 3 years. In that time, I’m pretty sure that I have been reading about Danielle (or “DL” as I call her) and her life for most of that time. I don’t remember HOW I found her (we were trying to recall how we became friends and neither of us could remember). Odds are good that I probably found her through another blogger and then left a comment or two (or three) and she visited my site and found that we have the same interests in music and our families and from there a wonderful friendship has grown. I’ve seen her daughter grow through her posted pictures. I have read about her past and the things she has been through. And I have enjoyed her taste in music as she posts her “Music Lover Mondays” mixes and videos. She is almost a female version of myself and we get along swimmingly (do we say “swimmingly” in the U.S.? Eh…who cares…)

Anyway…it was great to finally meet one of my favorite people who I had never met and she is just as awesome in person as she is in print. I’m hoping we get to meet again sometime, maybe when I have a little more time and we can have a few drinks (the woman has NEVER had a Blue Moon? Seriously DL?) and tell a few more stories about life and blogging and how our kids drive us insane but we love them for it. But for now, just getting to meet her in person was truly a treat. She is exactly like she is on her blog…very personable, very easy to talk to and a wonderful person. Hopefully she’ll get back on the writing horse again here soon. I have missed her and I am looking forward to the next time when we can get together and tear up the town. Hope Dallas is ready…it could get loud! LOL
