Socks Suck

If there is one thing that my wife and I both hate, it’s folding socks. Here’s the way we roll…

I wash my clothes. Stephanie washes her clothes. We both wash the kids clothes, as long as they’re not delicate. If they are, then Steph washes them. We both fold. We both put them away. Not a bad system. It works for us.

However, there is the gray (grey?) area of socks. Folding socks sucks. I hate it and I’ll be honest, I don’t want to do it. I’ll mow the grass, change the cat litter, take out trash, fix the toilet (or at least call somebody to fix the toilet), change lightbulbs…whatever! I just don’t want to fold socks! If I had my way, I would seperate all of our socks in 4 neat little piles, then launch them into a drawer and call it a day. But we all know that’s not gonna happen. So what happens is this…they pile up.

All the other clothes get washed repeatedly, but the socks sit, and sit, and sit…until finally the pile is so large and the need is so great, that they must be done. So I usually start the process. Loading them into the washer ain’t hard. Usually its a great big scoop and in they go. Hot water is what I’ve been told to use. And a splash of bleach. Not a lot! Just a splash…

Then I throw them in the dryer. 60 minutes or so on low heat. Done.

And then they sit for a few more days or until they have to physically removed from the dryer because other clothes must be washed. So now we have the dilemma. Leave them in the basket and hope that the magical sock fairies come flying through our window at 2am, folding and laughing and playing whimsically? Or…take 3 hours out of our day and actually fold them ourselves?

We’ve tried waiting on the fairies, but apparently unless you book them 20 days in advance, they don’t show. So we are faced with doing it ourselves.

And…usually Steph ends up doing it. I know…I’m a rotten husband. But today is Tuesday and I got cat litter to change. All of a sudden, life doesn’t seem so bad now…does it?

That is why you buy the socks that have color coded toes/heels. Then you throw away all of the other socks. Makes life much easier.

I hate socks. Hate laundry too. Hate. Hate. Hate.

Sometimes, I just go buy new socks. It’s easier.

Eh, who needs their socks folded? Is there possibly a bigger waste of time? My husband and daughter both have small collapsible bins they throw theirs into and put on the shelf in their closets to keep them contained. A small basket would work too. I have better things to do, like watch Hell’s Kitchen.

Gray (American English) Grey (England Old English) so I have been taught. However; sepArate is how you spell separate. Just so you know. As for socks for six kids? I just threw them in a drawer and let you kids figure it out. White socks for uniforms. Nothing hard about that. Love…………
