Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. What better way to celebrate being alive than to be with family and eating ’til your pants buttons pop? I can’t think of anything I enjoy more. So here they are…the Top 10 Reasons For me to give thanks!
10. My Health
I’m pushing 40 and I’m not in the best shape of my life, but I’ve managed to lose 11 pounds in a few months and am working out regularly. It’s a mindset, and I’m doing okay! Well…until THIS holiday anyways…
9. My Job
I love my job! I get to watch sports. I get to travel. I have great people that I work with. Seriously, I have been blessed and consider myself to be one of the luckiest guys in the world!
8. My dog Barkley
He’s my 3rd child…and the second I get home, he’s all over me! Sure…it can be a little annoying. But all he wants is to play tug-of-war and a doggie treat. It’s love without any strings attached!
7. My Home
As many problems as it has, it’s still ours. And my kids have both grown up there. Foundation issues, toilet issues, space issues. You name it, we’ve had them. But it’s still OUR house…and we love it!
6. My Friends
If there ever were a group of people who have to be the most understanding people in the world, it’s my friends. I am not the easiest person to contact. I’m not readily available (ask my wife). I’m not always there for them (ask my wife). But they accept me for who I am and only complain a little bit. So to Newman, J.T., Robert, Frank, Rich, Shayne, Janet and to all my friends around the country…thank you for being my friends! Trust me…I don’t know that I would be my friend if I were you…
5. My Siblings
It seems as I get older the closer we get. I would say in the last 4 or 5 years, I have really gotten to know them better than I ever have. Considering I was so much older than most of them, it has taken a while for me to realize that they are all grown adults and now that my brother is one of my best friends and my baby sister is pregnant…I guess I have come to the realization that I am old. But they are getting older too!
4. My Parents
Seriously…they did a great job, didn’t they? And I can’t thank them enough! Being a momma’s boy has had it’s advantages…
3. My Wife
Don’t know how she puts up with me and my work schedule, but she does. She doesn’t like it, but she deals and she doesn’t give me too much crap. Our trip to London was a reaffirmation what a great team we can be when we’re on the same page and I love when I can make her laugh and help her relax (which isn’t easy considering her schedule!). Love you honey..and you are SO much sexier than a call girl from New York! 😉
2. My son
He is growing so fast and now he’s making his own decisions and becoming a little man. He’s learning at a fast pace and is enjoying being in 1st grade. I see pictures of him as a baby and I can’t even imagine another 6 years. Where did my baby boy go? Just don’t grow up too fast Dude…’cause I don’t know if I can adjust THAT quickly!
1. My daughter
In the past year she has grown so fast. I mean…REALLY grown. Seriously…the girl has a hollow leg. And she is a complete mess. And she is clumsy. And she likes to paint my toenails. And she’s learning to read and knows her letters and numbers and is learning continents and planets. Oh…and she loves Gwen Stefani. I can’t even write about her without a tear coming to my eye. She is the spice in my life and I don’t even want to imagine what kind of trouble she’s gonna be when she hits her teen years.
I think these are all GREAT reasons to give thanks! I truly have a blessed life. And now I leave you with an appropriate quote from the great film “American Beauty”…
“Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst… And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. You have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m sure. But don’t worry… you will someday.”
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
